The sharpening rod has a core
made of 18/10 1.4301 stainless
steel and is coated with tungsten
carbide.
Tungsten carbide is a compound
of tungsten and carbon. It is almost as hard as diamond, very
durable, highly wear-resistant, and
corrosion-resistant. Its properties
are similar to those of sintered carbide.
The roughness of the rod is comparable to medium-fine grit, as with
vanadium, but results in greater
removal. Even with very light pressure, it delivers excellent sharpening results. When used properly, the
rod is break-proof and impact-resistant. It is available with cherry,
ice beech, plum, walnut, and oak
wood handles
